A Little World in the Water: Sharing Environmental Awareness from Children to Mom, Families and Communities

On 24 October 2026, the Zonta Club of Bangkok X co-organized “A Little World in the Water: Learning About Ecosystems Through Aquatic Animal Care” for young people at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, Thailand.

Representing the Club were Dr. Metas Ngernchan, Club Secretary and speaker; Khun Kitchanan Phayomyong, Club Member and speaker; and Khun Sorada Hansumrittisak, Club Treasurer.

Participants learned about the relationships between water, aquatic animals, plants, and other living things, discovering how caring for a small ecosystem connects to caring for the wider environment.

Guided by “Zonta Says NOW to Gender-Equal Climate Action,” the activity linked environmental awareness with the well-being of women and girls. Clean water, safe food, and healthy ecosystems support everyday life and livelihoods. Environmental challenges can also place additional demands on women with family caregiving responsibilities.

The Club aims to extend this learning beyond the activity by encouraging children to share their knowledge with their mothers, other family members, and people in their communities—and to take practical steps together, from conserving water and reducing plastic use to keeping waste and pollutants out of waterways.

With adults listening, offering support, and taking action alongside them, children can help turn new knowledge into shared habits at home and positive change in their communities.

The Zonta Club of Bangkok X thanks the speakers, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, Thailand, and all participating young people for contributing to this meaningful learning experience.

From one child to one family, and onward to the community—working together for a more sustainable and equitable future.
